Fair Trade gems

 

The Fair Trade principle is knwon to everybody; a fair product for a fair price. The entrepreneur in the country of origin receives a fair price for his product. The selection is based on employment conditions and sustainability criteria.

 

This gives not only an additional value to the producer, but the entire village community will benefit from this trade.

Started with the coffee, the label is now expanded to include ice cream, tea, chocolate, honey, cocoa, juice, rice, wine, beer and sugar and fruit and even more.

 

Together with Mike Angenent from Open Soure Minerals B.V. an inventory of the potential of Faire Trade Gems is made.

With the Fair Trade Gems a audited purchase of precious gemstones takes place. A portion of the earnings will be invested in the local village and surrounding area.

 

The whole process from mining, polishing, fabrication is checked for economic and social aspects!

 

In a specific area in Tanzania Small-Holders are mining gemstones.

These includes ruby, sapphire and emerald.

As so often, the miners are exploited and are not receiving a fair price for their products, they only recieve a fraction of the actual value.

With a Fair Trade scheme there is no more room for exploiting and a portion of the  benefit will be used for the entire village community.
