General
CO2 sequestration by olivine is most efficient in tropical conditions.
In order to make tis feasible in a optimal and certified manner Olivine Concepts has come to agreement with various institutions and companies.
Purpose
The aim is to sequester CO2 in a fast and efficient manner and simultaniously increase the yields of agricultural products. The local people in the tropical regions are supported in their development.
Implementation
In one of the poorest areas of Tanzania a promising initiative has started. Small holder mines are already for already many years searching to find gemstones. Ats a result of these mining activities large amounts of residual material are produced.
At some locations this mineral contains a high amount of olivine. This fine material is bought by us and will be spread at local rice fields.
By the erosion of these minerals nutrients are released. Notably Magnesium ions, bi-carbonate and silica. These minerals are vitalizing the soil.
The yield of rice will be increased by this!! As rice (as all grass type of plants) are requiring silica as a nutrient.
The reaction under these tropical circumstances is much faster en thereby are large amounts of CO2 sequestrated.
Monitoring
The monitoring and administration of this project will be done by research institutions in both the Netherlands and Tanzania.
